Interest Rate and Your Credit Rating
People with great credit reports obviously get the best deals and
the lowest interest rates. In most cases you will find that your rates,
fees, penalties, charges and credit limits (you may have to start
with something as low as $500) will be worse in relation to how far
from perfect your credit rating is.
Credit Card issuers look at more than just your payment history though.
They balance the bad aspects of your credit, like late payments, against
the good aspects, like a steady job and long-time residence at the
same address. So don't assume or accept that you have no choice but
to accept those high interest credit card offers.
Don't apply to every credit card company you can find. There are
many places to apply for low interest credit cards on the internet
and many of those are listed near the top of this page. Too many applications
for credit cards can scare creditors (they can easily find how many
times you've applied when they access your credit report), especially
if you already have some blemishes on your credit report.
